When your friends point out one of your shortcomings to you, they can make you aware enough to want to do something about it. In Tye’s case, he had known that his back teeth were hidden when he smiled, but it took a friend’s observation of the problem to really get Tye’s attention. And when he saw himself in photographs, he knew it was definitely time to do something about it. But what, exactly? Tye had pretty nice teeth to begin with: they were actually well-shaped, but had become discolored over time. Between his friend’s observation and the photographs, Tye wanted permanent improvement. During our consult, however, Tye rejected one of the options we presented because he had no interest in orthodontics to expand his arch; he wanted a solution that was easier to achieve and not time-intensive. Our final plan for Tye included 10 upper veneers. Because Tye’s teeth were attractively shaped to begin with, we didn’t want to reshape or alter them in order to place veneers. In other words, we wanted a very conservative and minimal preparation of his teeth to reach our goal: an expansion of his back teeth and slight shape modification of the front teeth, combined with an overall brighter smile, that would express his uniqueness and at the same time look very natural. Tye was extremely satisfied with the result and couldnt wait to show his new smile at the next photo opportunity.
