Sarah was extremely upset about her teeth and how it made her feel. Sarah had suffered from Bulimia as a teenager and it had taken a drastic toll on her teeth. As a direct result of excessive acids in her mouth it had destroyed the enamel on her teeth. Sarah had lost up to70% of the enamel on her teeth from constant acidic erosion. Enamel is the hardest substance in the body and its purpose is to provide a suitable surface for chewing food and protecting the underlying dentin. Once the dentin is exposed; as was the case with Sarah a variety of issues begins to occur, such as, extreme sensitivity to temperature, bite instability leading to TMJ disorders, possible need for root canals. On the cosmetic side teeth will get shorter and thinner and will begin to look translucent and grey in appearance. This is an extremely delicate situation to treat since there is quite a bit of tooth loss and in rebuilding them have to be careful not to haphazardly remove teeth in the process of rebuilding them. For Sarah we were able to successfully regain what she had lost with a very strong and durable porcelain protection.
