Being married to a famous actress whose teeth had been veneered to create a smile perfect enough for her extreme on-camera closeups, Marcus knew he needed to improve his own smile and take care of some serious dental issues that had accumulated over time because of earlier dental work. Many of his large silver/mercury fillings, done in Ireland, had broken down, and were placing exorbitant stress on his teeth. These fillings are problematical because they expand and contract more rapidly than natural teeth when exposed to very hot or very cold liquids, and are prone to crack the supporting teeth easily when hard foods are eaten. Not only can they fracture as a result, but they can also decay underneath the silver/mercury fillings and go undetected for years. We were able to return Marcus's teeth to a healthy state in several stages, and provide a straight and even smile. First, the original damaged fillings were replaced with more durable (and temperature-resistant) porcelain restorations. Once the foundations of his teeth were strengthened, we moved on to correct another long-standing problem: his lower front teeth had become crowded, contributing to a bite imbalance that caused them to project forward and, on biting, forcefully hit the backs of his upper front teeth. Using Invisalign, we straightened them (it took eight months) so that his bite was correct, and his smile bright and even.
