You can really tell how someone feels just by their smile or perhaps lack of it.  That’s why a smile is worth a thousand words, but did you know your smile could be worth a fortune? Research has shown that a smile from a loved one sends the same brain waves as learning that you have won $40,000.

Did you know that smiling is actually good for your health? A study actually revealed that smiling reduces stress. That is because when you smile your body releases endorphins; which is basically a naturally produced morphine by your body and are very good for your health. Endorphins are your body’s mechanism to control pain, stress, and frustration and actually regulate production of growth and sex hormones and your body produces about twenty different endorphins with different benefits and uses.  Smiling or outright laughter can increase the levels of endorphins.  As Norman Cozen showed in his book “Anatomy of an Illness” laughter actually triggers the release of endorphins.

Chinese proverbs always refer to smiling and the good health that it brings to your life, an example of how important smiling is for your health. Your smile is the most eloquent facial expression. It is actually the first thing that people notice; even from 300 feet away. If there is one activity that we should all participate in is smiling and laughing more.  So make smiling and outright laughter as part of your daily exercise routine. If you can’t smile for a reason, you should give it a try and force yourself to smile. Not only can it boost your mood, it can also improve your health.

Here are a few activities that will help:

1.      Watch a funny movie every day or go on YouTube and watch a few clips  of your favorite   comedians

2.      Go in front of the mirror and laugh at yourself

3.      Smile at strangers that pass you by (for no reason whatsoever)

4.      Give someone a compliment and make them smile.
