Your eyes may be the window to your soul, but your mouth is the window to your health. . It’s not just about your teeth! In fact, inspecting the inside of your mouth, your tongue, and your gums on a regular basis can be crucial to your overall health. Even more significant, your mouth can serve as an alarm system for troubles to come. Therefore, it is imperative that you are aware of what is going on with your mouth. Early signal signs will make a difference between a successful or failed treatment

While understanding your mouth maybe complicated, you are your best defense against any health problem. One way to achieve this is by going beyond your normal oral hygiene routine, and maintaining a healthy diet that promotes an alkaline oral environment.   Eat whole foods (a lot of fruits and vegetables) rather than processed, and avoid using mouthwash containing alcohol. Be vigilant: examine your gums, the sides and roof of your mouth, and your tongue on a regular basis, and note any changes in tissue or color that you see.

The health of your mouth does not function independent of your body. A healthy mouth is a clear indicator of a healthy body. Be sure to call your dentist to report any changes to the health of your mouth and to schedule an appointment so that s/he evaluate for any conditions like cancer and diabetes that seem justified. Prevention is always better than the cure.
