Is Cosmetic Dentistry Permanent | NYC Smile Design | Manhattan, New York

Popular cosmetic dentistry procedures include:

Other services, such as dental implants, tooth colored fillings, and porcelain dental crowns serve cosmetic purposes as well, but are used to restore strength and prevent future functional problems even when no cosmetic issues are present.

Some Things Last Forever

Dental implants are made out of titanium and are designed to last for a lifetime. Most dental restorations, however, are not permanent. Some, like porcelain veneers, may last for 10 or more years. Porcelain crowns can last even longer. Things like tooth whitening, on the other hand, may only last for a few months. In the end, how long your cosmetic restorations or treatments last will depend on the type of care you take of them.

Caring for Cosmetic Restorations

The restorations placed at NYC Smile Design are designed to restore all natural tooth functions. Durable, stain-resistant, and natural-looking, our restorations can last for decades when properly cared for. Of course, the reverse is also true, placing the burden on the patient for maintaining results. Fortunately, caring for cosmetic restorations is no different than caring for your natural teeth.

Brush, Floss, Visit the Dentist

Protect your restorations from scratches and damage by using a soft-bristled toothbrush and nonabrasive toothpaste. Brush for at least two minutes after every meal and snack.

Floss twice daily, from root to crown, in between every tooth in your mouth, but reconsider using mouthwash. Some mouthwashes can damage dental bonding while other types can cause tooth staining. Talk to Dr. Mello or Dr. Tabib before incorporating a mouthwash into your daily routine.

Lastly, continue to visit our office every six months for cleanings and examinations. These are essential for continued oral health and important for a consistently beautiful smile.
