Can a Smile Makeover Improve Your Job Prospects in NYC?

Your smile is one of the first things people notice about you. This is both cliché and absolutely true – and the quality of your smile may be impacting your job prospects.

Several studies have shown that people with attractive smiles are more likely to be hired and promoted than equally qualified candidates with crooked, discolored, or missing teeth. If you suspect the appearance of your smile is holding you back at work, call our New York City cosmetic dentists at 212-452-3344 to schedule a consultation and learn how we can help.

Do Your Teeth Make You Look Successful and Honest?

NYC Smile Makeover A perception study conducted by independent research and consulting firm, Kelton Research, found that people shown pictures of others – with smiles both perfect and marred – identified those with straight teeth as more successful and trustworthy. Of the 1,047 respondents, 58% suggested they believed people with straight teeth were more successful and wealthy, and 73% reported they were more likely to trust someone with a nice smile, even when factors like clothing and cars were included.

Another study, also conducted by Kelton Research, simulated job interviews with 1,006 participants. In this study, 65% of respondents were seen to be “more professional” following teeth whitening. This study also found that a majority of respondents felt people with white teeth were more successful and more trustworthy than those with stained or discolored teeth.

The takeaway from these and similar studies is clear: People view those with straight, white smiles as more successful. And this, by extension, may actually lead to greater success in the business world.

The Role of Confidence

In the second study mentioned above, 61% of those who had undergone teeth whitening reported feeling more confident following their procedure – and confidence may actually play a large role in the way these participants were viewed by mock-interviewers.

Confidence in your appearance can translate to greater ease in your overall presence, factoring into how others interact with you. If you are more likely to hide your smile due to discomfort, you may very well be sending signals that you lack confidence and are not well-suited for advancement.

Manhattan cosmetic dentists Dr. Ramin Tabib and Elisa Mello can help. We offer a comprehensive range of cosmetic dentistry services that can be used alone or in combination to perfect your smile, helping increase confidence and perhaps even improve your chances of success in the business world.

From Stand-Alone Services to a Complete Smile Makeover

Stand-alone services may be sufficient at perfecting smiles marred by minor cosmetic problems. Common cosmetic dental issues such as surface stains, chipped or cracked teeth, and excessive gum tissue can easily be addressed in a single office visit, though a more comprehensive approach often proves beneficial for smiles impacted by several different problems.

If more than one problem is preventing your smile from accurately representing your qualities, a complete smile makeover could be the best option. Smile makeovers combine various cosmetic dentistry treatments to fully perfect the teeth and gums.

Depending on your specific concerns, your smile makeover at our NYC office may include:

  • Teeth whitening
  • Porcelain veneers
  • Dental bonding
  • Gum contouring
  • Enamel contouring
  • Porcelain crowns

A smile makeover may also include general dentistry services such as tooth colored fillings, porcelain inlays and onlays, and dental implants. During your initial consultation with Dr. Tabib or Dr. Mello, the combination that can help restore your confidence and improve your work life will be discussed in greater detail.
