When I first saw Jenny, I could see that a dental drama had been playing out in her mouth. Her front four teeth had been melting away, and were eroding from the back. Yet none of her other teeth were showing the same wear and tear. With these clues, we suspected that chemistry was to blame; in this case, the acid from lemons, which Jenny enjoyed chewing wedges of. Because she held the wedges between her front teeth for long periods of time, they couldn’t resist the lemony acid, and had been seriously worn down over the years. And it wasn’t only an aesthetic problem: her front teeth had become so thin that they were also extremely
sensitive to hot and cold food and drink. Our plan was to create natural porcelain crowns for all four front teeth that would seamlessly blend in with the rest of her teeth to produce a new, completely natural-looking smile, and eliminate her sensitivity to heat and cold. We also suggested to Jenny that she give up the lemons she loved for something that would not affect the rest of her teeth. Less dramatic, perhaps, but better for her dental health!
