Cecilia

Cecilia was a most attractive woman who, like many of our patients, was unhappy with her smile and felt it detracted from her looks. Because her problems with her smile were of long duration, she also (like many of our patients) had made several attempts to correct them which had not been successful in the long run: in Denmark, her native country, she had had a crown placed on a front tooth that had previously required a root canal. But the crown didn’t match the rest of her smile, and had also caused her gums to bleed in response to its excessive thickness at the gum level. Fortunately for us and for Cecelia, her husband had previously been treated at NYC Smile Design for placement of veneers; he recommended us to his wife, and she came in for a consult. When we analyzed her problems and heard her list of concerns, we realized they were more extensive than just a non-matching crown and an inflamed gum. She was aware that her back teeth were hidden from view and were leaning inward towards her tongue — what we would call a collapsed and overclosed bite. Veneers were an option, but not a solution to teeth that were already at such an undesirable angle — one that would only become more pronounced with time. So our plan for Cecelia was to coax her back teeth (both top and bottom) into a vertical position. With Invisalign, this procedure took about a year. After achieving our objective, we decided to replace the existing crown on Cecelia’s front tooth and to add a porcelain veneer to the adjacent front tooth so the two would be a perfect match for color and shape. We also corrected the gum position on the crown that had been inflamed with laser gum procedure Cecelia was delighted with the results –especially because she had imagined, when she first came in for her consult, that she would need a mouthful of veneers, rather than Invisalign and only two. It was a win-win equation.
