avoided expressing his naturalwarmth by smiling as little as possible. The visible gaps in his upper teeth were first treated 25 years ago by a dentist who simply filled them in with plastic bonding,. But Bijan was increasingly aware that they looked unnatural and had become badly discolored, and wanted to find doctors who could create a better solution to the problem. We worked closely with Bijan, using the latest technology and aesthetic approach to create his makeover. We began by making a three-dimensional image of his mouth and then a mockup (waxup) of our suggested design, and called in our master ceramist to work on the model so that Bijan could see it exactly as it would be.Next, we removed the previous bonding and discovered the decay, leaks and unhealthy gum tissue it had hidden for years. After treating them, we prepared Bijan's teeth, using temporary material to check for comfort and phonetics. With meticulous final adjustments, Bijan was fitted with porcelain laminates on eight teeth, distributing the spacing more evenly and creating the natural-looking smile he had hoped for. The results? As Bijan tells it, "In finance, appearances really count. Clients and colleaguesalike need to feel confident of your skill. I find I'm more comfortable at business dinners andmeetings, and I no longer avoid being photographed. Of course I smile more! My close friends knew the details. But colleagues just keep telling me I seem happier.
