LGBTQIA+ Heart

Transgender and gender-nonconforming (TGNC) individuals face higher rates of oral health concerns such as gum disease, tooth infection, and oral cancer according to a study published in BMC Oral Health. According to the study, TGNC individuals may be more likely to engage in behaviors such as tobacco and alcohol use, both of which increase risks for infection and disease exponentially. Commonly marginalized, TGNC adults are also less likely to seek dental care out of fear of mistreatment.

Tragically, this fear is far from baseless.

Welcoming to All

Dr. Tabib, Dr. Mello, and the staff at NYC Smile Design are open, accepting, and welcoming to all. We support the LGBTQIA+ community wholeheartedly, and welcome patients who have faced mistreatment elsewhere. We oppose all forms of discrimination and remain committed to providing a safe, warm, and friendly atmosphere for every single person who walks through our doors.

Thoughtful, compassionate, and attentive, we provide a comprehensive range of general and restorative options to address issues including infection, decay, and periodontal disease. This includes preventive services such as cleanings and examinations, as well as more advanced restorative options, such as dental bridges and crowns, to address trauma, tooth loss, and severe decay. These can be used alone or in combination to correct all oral health concerns and restore strength and function to the smile.

Cosmetic treatments are ideal for the perfection of the smile. Some of these services can also assist in gender confirmation by redesigning tooth and gum structures. Options including porcelain veneers, gum line rejuvenation, and enamel contouring may all help to enhance, alternately, masculine or feminine aspects of the smile, while also addressing common and more pronounced aesthetic concerns.

Removing Barriers to Treatment

At NYC Smile Design, we strive to remove the barriers to treatment commonly faced by the LGBTQIA+ community. Beginning with your first contact, we will treat you with the honesty, respect, kindness, and dignity that you deserve.

We believe transgender and gender-nonconforming people are deserving of optimal oral health and beauty, and we work to ensure our patients feel acknowledged, safe, and completely cared for.
