Invisalign® is an orthodontic option that utilizes clear plastic aligners to move teeth into their optimal position. Suitable for common malocclusions, Invisalign can address:
- Overbite: Upper teeth that extend well over the lower teeth
- Underbite: Lower teeth that extend well over the upper teeth
- Crossbite: Upper and lower teeth do not come together evenly
- Open bite: Lower and upper teeth do not come together at all
Invisalign may not be ideal for large gaps, intrusion and extrusion, or crooked tooth presentation. For these issues, braces or another orthodontic treatment may be best.
What’s So Great About Invisalign?
There are several benefits offered by Invisalign that are not enjoyed by alternative orthodontic treatments. Aligners are crafted from SmartTrack, a patented thermoplastic material that is gentle on gums without sacrificing efficacy. Unlike metal braces, Invisalign will not scratch or irritate soft oral tissue, or impact your ability to participate in athletic activities.
Invisalign aligners are removed for eating and tooth cleaning. Removing aligners to eat eliminates the restrictions placed on foods during other orthodontic services. You can enjoy raw fruits and vegetables, seeds and nuts, popcorn, and more throughout your treatment process. Removing aligners to clean the teeth eliminates the need for special tools. It also reduces the risks of tooth discoloration, which is relatively common with braces.
Treatment with Invisalign is faster than traditional orthodontic treatment. Some patients may experience results in as few as six months, though it may take 12 to 18 months in some cases. By contrast, it may take braces up to 36 months to improve the bite.
Compared to braces, Treatment with Invisalign:
- Is faster
- Does not require dietary restrictions
- Allows for proper cleaning of the teeth
- Is less invasive and more comfortable
