After graduating from New York University, Dr. Mello continued her education at the New York University College of Dentistry, receiving her doctorate in dental surgery in 1991. Dr. Mello was elected to Membership of the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon - The National Dental Honor Society recognizing academic and clinical excellence in dentistry.

Dr. Mello then began practice in New York while continuing to study at Flushing Hospital, a major teaching affiliate of the Albert Einstein Medical College where she received extensive training in periodontics and orthodontics. Additional training in periodontal therapy and periodontal plastic surgery was received through the Periodontal Institute of Seattle. She then completed a two-year course in orthodontics at the Light Force Orthodontic Institute (Pittsburgh). Since then she has completed training in oral surgery, dental trauma and emergencies, pain control and anesthesia, and pediatric dentistry.

Professional affiliations include membership in the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Academy of General Dentistry, American Dental Association, and First District Dental Society. American Academy of Periodontology. Dr. Mello was recognized as the senior student attaining the highest skill and knowledge in the field of periodontology and awarded the Samual Charles Miller Award in Periodontics.

In addition to private practice, Dr. Mello is a Clinical Assistant Professor at NYU College of Dentistry, International General Dentistry Program. Recognizing an important need a dentist can fulfill, she is a participating provider in the American Association of Women Dentist’s program for battered women “Smiles for Success” helping to build confidence in these women as they begin anew.
